South Grand Dine Around, a Restaurant Crawl

Diners from all over the St. Louis region will have the opportunity to sample the vast array of what the South Grand restaurants and bars have to offer. The 2020 South Grand Dine Around will feature selections from all over South Grand, St. Louis’ international corridor. Get your taste buds ready to eat around the world with 13 countries represented within five blocks! Spend your 5 tickets any way you like between small plates, desserts or drinks at some of our finest establishments! New this year two menus will be provided to showcase the district’s vegan options.

“The South Grand Dine Around will give new and regular visitors to South Grand a chance to try something they don’t normally eat or drink on South Grand. Whether you’re a conservative eater or an adventurous one, this is an amazing event,” says Rachel Witt, Executive Director of the South Grand Cultural Alliance.

Take a journey with Henry Brockman on how climate change is affecting farmers. For a quarter-century, Henry Brockman has worked alongside nature to grow delicious organic vegetables on his idyllic Midwestern farm. But farming takes a toll on his aging body and Henry dreams of scaling back. While his former apprentices run the farm, Henry spends a “fallow year” with his wife Hiroko in Japan. But things don’t turn out as planned, and Henry must grapple with the future of farming in a changing climate on personal, generational, and global levels.

South Grand Fall Fest

The annual event, now in its seventh year, will include more than 70 retail vendors and community organizations, as well as specific activity areas perfect for families.

During South Grand Fall Fest, businesses located on the boulevard will offer varying specials, discounts and entertainment. Tucked between the storefronts attendees will find themed groupings of activities and offerings, including craft activities and games.

The craft activities, located throughout South Grand Boulevard, will feature hands-on DIY activities from art experts like Artscope, Perennial, and Tower Grove East Prep Academy.

Games will be located throughout South Grand Boulevard as well will include outdoor favorites for attendees of all ages such as gigantic Jenga, life-sized Connect Four, and Bing bag toss.

Also, South Grand Fall Fest attendees can enjoy shopping located on Hartford, Juniata Street, Connecticut Street, Wyoming Street, and Humphrey Street off of South Grand Boulevard, as well as ongoing entertainment in Ritz Park. This year all acts are TBD.

For an easier driving and parking experience, South Grand Boulevard remains open during Fall Fest, with many of the events and booths housed on the side streets away from traffic. Free Parking is available in the lot at 3500 Hartford St. South Grand Fall Fest is open 11AM to 6PM on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020, with entertainment in Ritz Park from 11AM to 8PM.

South Grand Chalk Walk

South Grand Cultural Alliance will host our fifth annual Chalk Walk celebration on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020. This event is free for both participants and sightseers, and $650 in cash prizes will be awarded.

Chalk Walk gives local artists—from professionals to amateurs, adults to children—a chance to win big by creating one-of-a-kind sidewalk masterpieces. Official judges from local arts organizations will be making their rounds at 2:30 p.m., while community voting will be open from 10AM until 4PM Prizes will be awarded in five categories: Best Adult, Best 0-6 Art, Best 7-11 Art, Best Young Adult Art, and Community Favorite.

In addition to the art, attendees can enjoy family-friendly activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and live, local music and performances from 1 to 5PM South Grand businesses will be open during the event, making it truly an all-day affair.

“We invite anyone to come to enjoy the fresh air and fresh art, whether you create your own or vote for your favorite,” said Witt, executive director of the South Grand Cultural Alliance. “Whether you’re eating, shopping or connecting with your neighbors, this is a great chance to explore and enjoy everything South Grand has to offer.”

Grinchmas Cocoa Crawl and Window Decorating Contest

Grinchmas and Cocoa Crawl with Holiday Window Decorating Contest brings holiday cheer to South Grand. Photo with the Grinch will take place at Apotheosis Comics and Lounge from 9AM-1PM.

The cost $7, or $5 with a donation to Shriners Hospital children. All proceeds from photos will be donated to the Shriners Hospital for Children Saint Louis. Shriner Clowns will be providing free balloon animals at Apotheosis Comics and Lounge. Retailers will be donating 10% of their sales from 9AM-1PM to the Shriners Hospital for children.
