Part of a nationwide movement founded by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday encourages consumers to “shop small” during the holiday season by supporting local businesses and, by extension, their own community.
“As of being in business for just over a year on South Grand, I have been blown away by the initial — and continuing — support from the residents in and near the Tower Grove area,” said Beth Styles, owner of Parsimonia, which expanded from a mobile store to a spot on South Grand in September 2013. “It’s important that we take a step back from big-box stores and ask ourselves if we can get what we need from a local shop. Not only does a fair share of that money go back into the surrounding neighborhood, but helping these businesses thrive spurs growth and innovation in our communities and creates a unique sense of space.”
“South Grand is a place with unique retailers that offers a one-of-a-kind experience — from rare books to vintage furniture and clothing to handmade wonders from across the globe,” said Rachel Witt, the South Grand Community Improvement Executive Director. “We look forward having you spend Small Business Saturday exploring South Grand.”
